The EU Issues Updated Test Methods to Determine Toxicity of Chemicals Under REACH
The European Union issued Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/1390 of 31 July 2019 amending, for the purpose of its adaptation to technical progress, the Annex to Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 laying down test methods pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
In order to reduce the number of animals used for experimental purposes, two new test methods for the assessment of ecotoxicity and nine new test methods for the determination of toxicity to human health were laid down. seven test methods were updated. The regulation went into effect on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.
